Designed around a traditional rounding hammer, one face has a radius and the other is flat.
Head weight is 39 oz or 2.44 lbs
We have TWO (2) Hardness Options for S7 Tool Steel. We recommend wearing safety glasses with ALL Hammers, but we really really want you to do so with these S7 heads.
Option 1 - 45-47 Rockwell C which should be slightly softer than most anvils at 48-50HRC - Great durability in the testing we did smashing cold A36 steel
Comes in as Tumbled (Bright) finish or Matte Gray etching
Matte Gray finish option is an acid etch and will leave the surface a little rougher. Finished with wax to preserve and protect from rust. This finish will scratch off with sandpaper or other abrasive activities.
Option 2 - 55-57 Rockwell C which will be harder than most anvils so be careful with forging. The higher hardness allows us to offer them as tempered without a tumble finish
Comes in as Tempered Finish which means it may have scratch marks from heat treatment and the colors will vary from copper (as shown) to yellow to purple or a mix and cannot be controlled.
S7 steel is part of a Shock Resisting Family and used in industry for hot and cold working steel. These hammers will resist denting very well and will not crack under human power if you follow our guidelines on not striking two hardened objects.
Even if the faces have dents, the twisted sides will remain relatively unscratched depending on use. Can be used for assembly, whacking holdfasts or just making you feel good.
Save money and make it even more special by making your own handle! We will provide dimensioned drawings for the eye to help you make your own along with a walnut wedge.
